National boxing begins

LAHORE, June 2: Boxers from Punjab, Wapda and defending champions Army won their bouts on the opening day of the 30th national boxing championship which started at the Atiq Stadium on Thursday. In 48kg class, Wajid of Punjab defeated Faizul Hassan of Higher Education Commission (HEC) after referee stopped the contest in the second round, while Wapda’s Mohammad Wasim was declared winner against Arshad Hussain of KESC on RSC verdict in the third round.

In 51kg category, Army’s Nauman Karim beat PAF’s Amjad Sohail on points.

Twelve teams are taking part in the four-day activity. The other teams taking part are Navy, PAF, Sindh, KESC, KPT, Wapda, Railways, HEC and four provinces.
