HYDERABAD, June 3: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has no right to conduct any inquiry because it is the government work to investigate cases according to law. He was responding to questions of journalists here on Friday at a Tableeghi congregation.

“We are the government, we have the right to investigate any case and HRCP officials are not above the law and country’s law will be implemented”, he said.

Regarding a question about arrest and release of Jam Saqi, who was member of the fact-finding team, Mr Arbab said he was interrogated in a case that was lodged in the city.

“More facts will come to fore now against Jam Saqi”, he said.

The chief minister expressed his optimism that the president’s decision on the NFC issue would be in the interest of provinces.

He said the provinces had reposed confidence in the president for deciding distribution of resources among them and it was upto the president to decide the issue in the interest of provinces.

“The president is the head of the state and he represents all the provinces. He will do justice in the matter and provinces have to accept his decision”, he said.

About misappropriation of funds in the Makhi dam, he said the matter was being investigated from the technical point of view.

Mr Arbab said he was parliamentary secretary when the reservoir was being constructed.

He said there were reports of irregularities in compensation and acquisition of land.

“Even those lands whose condition is worse than Tharparkar were shown as orchards which is not a reality because I have visited the area”, he said.

He said action would be taken against officials of provincial and federal governments who were involved in the corruption.

The chief minister said he had ordered an inquiry into the death of six workers in KFC when it was torched after suicide attack on the Madinat-ul-Ilm mosque.

He said the government wanted to know why fire fighters did not launch rescue operation after extinguishing the fire for possible trapping of people.

He said inquiries were also being conducted into assassination of former MPA Aslam Mujahid and Tahir Jamal and facts would be disclosed.

He said the police would also be questioned why they did not resort to teargas shelling to disperse mob which went berserk and torched the restaurant.

He condemned those people who claimed to be patriotic and resorted to violence following suicide attack and burnt six innocent workers alive.

About the Tharparkar package, he said it was a three to four year development programme for which funds had been released.

“Local bodies’ elections will be held and you would hear good news soon”, he said and added that being the chief executive of the province he would appoint caretakers in place of the district nazims.

MPAs Dr Irfan Gul Magsi and Dr Manzoor Leghari were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the chief minister expressed satisfaction over the law and order situation in the region and promoted two police officials while recommending Pakistan Police Medal and awarding of commendatory certificates to several others, a police spokesman said on Friday.

Mr Arbab presided over a meeting of police officers at the circuit house.

It was attended by the RPO, DPO and other police officials.

Appreciating the performance of police, he was happy to note that there was better coordination between police and public in the city which would help police combat criminals.

He urged police officials to improve their performance even better.

He said the police had done really a good job by eliminating notorious bandits who had become symbol of terror for people.

The chief minister recommended award of PPM for Hyderabad DPO, additional DPO, SP headquarters, TPOs of Latifabad, Site and Tandojam.

Inspector Asghar Alam Halepoto and SI Wahid Bux Leghari were promoted as DSP and inspector, respectively.

SHOs of B-section, Baldia and Phulelli police will be given cash prizes and commendatory certificates.
