Sri Lankan Cricket Captain Dinesh Chandimal, team coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and manager Asanka Gurusinha were barred from participating in four ODIs and two Tests for “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”, the International Cricket Council announced on Monday.

According to the ICC website, the trio were charged for breaching Level 3, of Article 2.3.1. All three had pleaded guilty for display of conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game during last month’s St Lucia Test against the West Indies.

The decision was made after the Chairman of the ICC Code of Conduct Commission had conducted a six-hour-long hearing on the matter on Wednesday July 11.

Following a ball-tampering row, the trio had been charged with the level 3 offence over Sri Lanka's refusal to take the field on day three in the second Test in St Lucia last month, a refusal that resulted in a delay of roughly two hours, ESPN CricInfo reported.

According to ICC rules, eight suspension points equate to a ban from two Tests and four ODIs/T20Is or eight ODIs/T20Is, (whatever comes first for the player or player support personnel).

Under the rules, the commissioner’s decision means the three will not be a part of the Galle Test (July 12-14) and Colombo Test (July 20-24)

They will also remain suspended for the Dambulla ODIs (29 July and 1 August) as well as the Kandy ODIs (5 and 8 August).

Six demerit points each have also been added to the disciplinary records of Chandimal, Hathurusinghe and Gurusinha, the ICC website said.

"Suspension for Chandimal means he can neither be nominated as a substitute fielder nor can he enter any part of the playing area although he will be permitted to enter the player’s dressing room," the website explains while adding that the team coach and the manager will be barred from entering the players’ dressing room and attending post-match ceremonies and presentations.
