RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has directed the district administration to install emergency lights at polling stations on election day.

According to reports prepared by Rawalpindi assistant commissioner, 30 polling stations in the district do not have electricity, and 32 are without CCTV cameras.

A senior official of the district administration told Dawn that the district administration had requested the provincial government to provide additional funds for installation of emergency lights and generators at the polling stations.

He said that the hospitals and health authorities had been requested to establish camps around the polling stations, where doctors and paramedical staff will be deputed to take emergency cases.

He said that initial survey of the district intelligence committee had identified 305 polling stations as sensitive but the exact figure would be available after assistant commissioners’ survey.

He said the election commission officials and the district administration reviewed arrangements of the elections daily.

He said the election material had been arrived and given under the security of Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies.
