KARACHI: Police placed on Tuesday an interim investigation report before the administrative judge of the antiterrorism courts in a case pertaining to an alleged attack on the motorcade of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for want of evidence.

The investigating officer has charge-sheeted six suspects, who are on interim pre-arrest bail, for allegedly attacking Bilawal’s motorcade when he visited parts of his electoral constituency in Lyari on July 1.

Initially, the police had arrested a suspect, Adam, for his alleged involvement, but later released him under Section 497(2) of the CrPC for want of incriminating evidence.

After admitting the interim report, the administrative judge sent the case to the trial court and directed the IO to file final report within 14 days.

Over 400 unidentified persons were also booked in a case registered under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 268 (public nuisance), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Kalri police station.
