HYDERABAD, June 5: Residents of Goth Manjhi Khan Burfat, Kotri Site, and activists of the Pakistan Human Rights Forum held a demonstration against discharge of industrial waste in Goth Manjhi Khan Burfat. Speaking on the occasion, forum chairman Mehboob Sangi, Wazir Ali, Manthar Burfat and others said industrial waste mixed with chemicals of Kotri industrial units, which in the past was released in the KB Feeder, was now being diverted towards Goth Manjhi Khan Burfat.

They demanded that some alternative arrangements should be made for disposal of the industrial waste to save the village. They feared that if this was not done, an epidemic could spread in the village and its adjoining areas.

They said the Jamshoro DCO and the EDO, revenue, had been informed about the impending danger but no action had been taken in the matter.

HUNGER STRIKE: Activists of the Pakistan People’s Party-SB observed a token hunger strike against the contract system for catching fish.

Led by Rasheed Samo, Tehzeebun Nisa, Shahab Shaikh, Sattar Bhatti and others, they supported the demand of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum for introducing a licence system for catching fish. They also condemned rampant unemployment and price hike.
