ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday filed a reference against former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, former federal minister for water and power Liaquat Jatoi and others.

According to a NAB spokesman, the reference has been filed in the Accountability Court, Islamabad, against Shaukat Aziz, Liaquat Jatoi, former federal secretary Ismail Qureshi, former additional secretary Yousaf Memon, former joint secretary Ghulam Nabi Mangrio, senior water and power officer Umar Farooq, former chairman of the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) retired Air Marshal Shahid Hamid, former secretary of the AEDB Brig Dr Nasim A. Khan and former director general of the AEDB Dr Basharat Hasan Bashir.

The NAB board had authorised filing of the reference against Shaukat Aziz and others for illegally appointing Basharat Hassan Bashir as consultant for the AEDB in MP-2 scale in violation of rules, which caused losses up to Rs21 million.

According to NAB, the process of complaint verification, inquiry and investigation has been completed against the former prime minister after he was found guilty.

As per details of the case, the accused persons in connivance with each other illegally appointed Mr Bashir as consultant in MP-II Scale.
