LARKANA: The caretaker Sindh chief minister has accepted the resignation of the vice chancellor of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Prof Dr Ghulam Asghar Channa, Dawn learnt here on Tuesday.

A notification to this effect was issued with the signature of Abdul Kabir Kazi, secretary of the universities and boards, on July 30 which said that after accepting the resignation of the SMBBMU Larkana VC with immediate effect, the CM had given approval for Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza Pathan, dean, faculty of basic medical sciences SMBBMU Larkana, to hold the additional charge of the VC in addition to his own duties till appointment of a regular vice chancellor.

Asghar Channa was the second VC of SMBBMU Larkana who had resigned. Prof Dr Akbar Haider Soomro had resigned in the second week of October 2013 for personal reasons and Prof Dr Asadullah Mahar was asked to hold the charge as in-charge VC.

In the second week of June 2018, Prof Asghar had tendered resignation.
