KARACHI: Talented opener Saim Ayub struck his second century in the PCB Inter-region Under-19 One-day Cup as Karachi Whites comfortably eased past Islamabad by eight wickets in their third-round Group ‘A’ fixture at the Marghazar Ground in the federal capital on Sunday.

After bowling out Islamabad — who had won their first two matches — for 195 with paceman Mohammad Maki claiming 4-35, Karachi Whites reached 201-2 in 33.5 overs as Saim finished unbeaten 104, while striking 11 fours and three sixes in his 102-ball knock.

Quetta cruised to their third straight success when they downed Azad Jammu Kashmir by eight wickets at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

Slow left-armer Mohammad Ajmal Khan took 4-30 as AJK mustered 118 all out before Quetta romped home by making 119-2 in 28.3 overs.

Fata defeated Dera Murad Jamali by 47 runs at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi, while Faisalabad celebrated their third win on the trot by extending Lahore Whites’ misery with a six-wicket triumph at Rawalpindi’s KRL Stadium.

Peshawar, meanwhile, maintained their unbeaten streak to top Group ‘B’ when they sealed a four-wicket victory against Multan at the UBL Sports Complex.

Slow left-armer Nadir Shah starred with figures of 4-29 while inspiring Karachi Blues to a three-wicket win over Bahawalpur here at the UBL Sports Complex.

In the remaining two games in this pool were thrilling.

Hyderabad survived a late onslaught from Abbottabad before winning by just three runs in a high-scoring encounter at the TMC Ground.

Skipper Saad Khan hammered an entertaining 90 off 89 balls with the aid of eight boundaries and five sixes as he and Mohammad Wasim (69) added 159 for the third wicket to enable Hyderabad collect 288-8.

Shahbaz Ahmed stood out in Abbottabad’s reply with a brilliant 86-ball innings of 101 (nine fours and one six) but his heroics were not enough as his side finished at 285-8.

Sialkot sealed an eight-run win by restricting Lahore Blues to 196-9 at the NBP Sports Complex.
