LAHORE: The WAPDA volleyball team, representing Pakistan, has claimed a bronze medal in the Asian Club Volleyball Championship, defeating Sanest Khanh Hoa Club of Vietnam in the third place match in Myanmar.
Wapda won with scores of 19-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, 18-16 (3-2).
Fourteen clubs from different countries were participating in the Asian Club Championship which started on July 30 and finished on August 6.
Wapda qualified for semi-final after defeating Japan. Before that, the Wapda volleyball team had secured victories against Myanmar, Turkmenistan and China. However, it lost its semi-final against Kazakhstan to settle for bronze medal.
Aimal Khan, Murad Jehan, Mubashir Raza and setter Muhamad Kashif Naveed and Asif Nadeem played outstandingly well during the championship.
Meanwhile, PVF chairman Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob congratulated the Wapda team for securing third place in this tough tournament. “The performance in the event was encouraging and since a number of tthese players of the Wapda team will be featuring in the upcoming Asian Games being held in Jakarta, it will be a boost for Pakistan,” he said.
