GUJRAT: Two brothers were gunned down over an old enmity here on Monday night at Raju Bhand village in Dinga police precincts.

Reports said Ali Asad (19) along with his brother Umer Farooq (15) was present at their outhouse to arrange fodder for the cattle when Ilyas, his two brothers and as many unidentified men of the rival group came there and opened fire, killing both on the spot.

The police said the assailants had a suspicion that Muhammad Mansha, father of the deceased boys, had reportedly killed their father Muhammad Ashraf around 20 years ago.

They said Ashraf had already died and the suspects killed his two sons to settle the score of their father’s murder.

The police have registered a case against six people, including four nominated, under sections 302, 148 and 149 on the report of Aziz Begum, the mother of deceased boys, and started investigation; however, no arrest could be made so far.

The deceased were laid to rest in the village graveyard on Tuesday after their bodies were handed over to the heirs following autopsy at the Kharian civil hospital.

DROWN: Two brothers and their cousin drowned in the Jhelum near Haranpur village in Pind Daden Khan tehsil on Tuesday.

The boys aged between 10 and 14 years went to the river for bathing and drowned.

The bodies of brothers Muhammad Asim and Muhammad Asif were recovered by the area people on their own as Rescue 1122 reached the spot three hours after the incident.

The search for Ayan continued till the evening.

Meanwhile, another teenager belonging to Tanda of Gujrat was feared drowned in a storm water channel passing through the area as family and rescue officials were searching for him.
