DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 8: A rehabilitation centre for child camel jockeys, who are due to return from the UAE, will be established soon to help them recover and rejoin their families. Most of the UAE-returned children were suffering from physical or psychological ailments, the Ansar Burney Welfare Trust International chairman said here on Tuesday.

He said the rehabilitation centre for the camel jockeys would help them recuperate and live with their families once again.

Camel race in which children of three years were used as jockeys had been prohibited in Qatar and the UAE because of efforts made by human rights organizations, especially the Ansar Burney trust, he said.

Of the 250 children recovered from privately-managed jails in the UAE, he said almost 40 per cent belonged to Dera Ghazi Khan. They would start arriving in Pakistan from June 16.

Mr Burni said at least 35,000 children were being used by race organizers as jockeys in the Middle East and Arab countries. pollution: The district environment department has issued show-cause notices to 12 hotels and three government rest houses on charges of unauthorized construction and discharge of waste in the Dames and Triman lakes at Fort Munro.

The notices have been issued to the hotels, including Family Inn, Pak Inn, Multan Restaurant, Al-Sheikh Hotel, Family Queen Hotel, Friends Hotel, Grace Hotel, Anari Hills, Welcome Hotel Trimo, Zahid Restaurant and Fort Inn, besides the National Highway and Muzafar Garh rest houses and a TDCP hotel and restaurant.

The department has directed these establishments to collect their solid waste in closed containers and dispose it of according to the Environment Protection Agency’s guidelines within seven days, warning them of legal action in case of violation.

The Tribal Area Tehsil TMO told Dawn that such notices were usually ignored by violators as the Border Military Police did not cooperate with the tehsil administration in the implementation of the same.
