ABBOTTABAD: In a surprise move, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz joined hands on Thursday to elect Abbottabad district nazim and naib nazim for the remaining period.

PTI nominees Sardar Saeed and Javed Iqbal were elected unopposed for the slots of nazim and naib nazim, respectively. The two seats had fallen vacant after the resignations of district nazim Ali Khan Jadoon, who has been elected MNA, and naib nazim Waqar Nabi who had opted to contest election to KP Assembly from Galiyat.

The district council comprises 79 members of which 45 are directly elected and the remaining on reserved seats. Six members have resigned from the council to contest election of which two had won.

The affairs of district council remained suspended for over twoand a half years due to a court case filed against the previous nazim Sardar Sher Bahadar. After the court order, Ali Khan Jadoon and Waqar Nabi became the nazim and naib nazim, but it could work for two months and the two quit the seats to contest the general elections.

The PTI has 45 members in the district council and PML-N 31. Deputy commissioner Fayaz Ali Shah later administered oath to the newly-elected nazim and naib nazim.

RELIEF FOR AMC EMPLOYEES: The Peshawar High Court circuit bench, Abbottabad, on Thursday again provided interim relief to three employees, including former dean of Ayub Medical College, who were served fresh notices by the acting board of governors (BoG)and clubbed the notices with the previous writ fixed for Sept 11, 2018.

The board had issued show-cause notices to five people, includingformer dean of AMC and former medical director, on Aug 13.

The single bench comprising Justice Arshid Ali granted interim relief to the former dean Dr Azizun Nisain a petition filed by Sajjad Abbasi advocate.

COMPLAINT SYSTEM: The provincial government has taken initiatives for strengthening the online public complaint system working under the KP Citizen Portal of Performance Management and Reforms Unit (PMRU) of the chief secretary’s office.

Speaking at a training workshop, PMRU provincial coordinator Adil Saeed Safi said that the federal government was likely to replicate this complaint system at the national level keeping in view its effectiveness to redress public complaints and improve performance of the provincial government departments and local bodies’ institutions.

He was imparting training on “Sustainability and Enforcement of Governance Initiatives Policy” of PMRU to the administration officers, district heads of government departments and local bodies’ authorities of Hazara Division, which was held at Jalal Baba Auditorium in Abbottabad.
