KARACHI: Nishter Club and Karachi Basketball club beat their respective rivals in the quarterfinals to qualify for the semifinals of the KBBA Independence Day basketball tournament being played here at the Arambagh courts on Friday.

In the first quarter-final, Nishter Club outplayed Arambagh Club 63-39. Talha Amjad (19 points), asad Ali (16 points) and Mohammad Shabbar (15 points) displayed superb game for the winners.

For the losing side, Ashraf Yahya (18 points), Saad Ali (8 points) and Abdullah (7 points) played well.

In the second quarter-final, Karachi Basketball Club thrashed Usman Club 80-47 to enter semis. Akmal Jameel (21 points), Kazim Abbas (20 points) and Talal Ahmed (19 points) were the main scorers.

For the runner-up side, Abdul Ahad (18 points), Hamza Khwaja (10 points), Usman Khwaja (9 points) and Danial Khan (8 points) displayed good game.
