ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday took suo motu notice of a video that went viral on social media recently showing Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) member of the Sindh Assembly Imran Ali Shah physically assaulting a senior citizen, identified as Daud Chauhan, in Karachi.
Mr Shah was elected from the Sindh Assembly’s constituency PS-129 (Karachi) in the recently held general elections in the country.
The CJP called a report within three days from both Mr Shah and Mr Chauhan.
In the video Mr Shah, who was accompanied by his armed guards, can be seen slapping Mr Chauhan multiple times during a heated argument at the middle of a road. The MPA also threatened the citizen.
After the video went viral on social media and drew public ire, the PTI issued a show cause notice to Mr Shah. Later, Sindh PTI president Firdaus Shamim Naqvi announced that the MPA’s party membership would remain suspended until the party’s disciplinary review committee took a final decision about him.
After the incident, Mr Shah uploaded a video of his visit to Mr Chauhan’s resident along with some PTI leaders in which he can be seen apologising to him and hugging him.
