PESHAWAR: Employees of the Agriculture University Peshawar beat up a student and torn his clothes over a petty argument here on Monday.

A video of the incident shared on WhatsApp and other social media outlets showed university employees grabbing a student inside a hall and pushing and shoving him towards the exit. A man in white clothes identified as Abid, the admin officer of the varsity, could be seen carrying a pistol in his hand.

The varsity director administration Mohammad Ilyas told Dawn that the incident took place over a petty dispute and later both the students and employees forgave each other at his office.

He said the incident took place inside a hall, where the university administration had made arrangements for collecting admission fee as it was difficult for students to stand in queue in scorching heat.

However, Mr Ilyas said video clip of the incident showed only the smart part of the story to give a particular colour.

The student was identified as Usman, a third year student.

Campus police station expressed ignorance over the incident.
