Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has taken notice of the "Pakpattan incident" in which DPO Rizwan Gondal was transferred, according to a notification issued on Thursday.
The top judge has issued notices to Inspector General of Punjab (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, additional IGP, inquiry officer Abubakar Khuda Baksh, Sahiwal RPO and Gondal to appear in the Supreme Court tomorrow [Friday] along with the inquiry report.
Controversy ensued after IGP Imam removed Gondal from his post on Monday, with the issue going viral on social media and people attributing the transfer to an incident involving Khawar Fareed Maneka, the former husband of first lady Bushra.
IGP Imam, however, said Gondal had not been transferred under any pressure but for making false statements.
He added that when the DPO was asked about an incident of misconduct of police with a citizen, he lied and made false statements regarding transfer orders on social media.
Appearing before an inquiry committee, Gondal had submitted a written statement, denying the charges of misbehaviour, and saying he and his force had done a lawful job.
SSP Maria Mehmood appointed DPO Pakpattan
Punjab Police announced on Thursday that Senior Superintendent of Police Maria Mehmood has been posted as DPO Pakpattan.
SSP Mehmood is only the second female to be appointed DPO after DPO Bahawalnagar Ammara Ather.

Why can CJP not focus on what Pakistan's judiciary is going through? and how miserable these courts have made the life of common men seeking justice. CJP seems more interested in following social media and taking the populist decisions. Pls, invest the same time and energy is correcting the flaws in the working of the lower courts.

The CJP is a very honest and dynamic figure. But, frequent his use of suomotto notice is unprecedented in the annals of the world history. This way, the lethargic civil services/administer will get a chance to go scott-free. As they say: "The excess of anything, excepting preayers, is poison". He must stand on top but avoid being a 'politician'. Let the system of justice speak through the judgements. Otherwise, the 'culprits' will make a mockery of the system so smartly/honestly run by him. The other point is about the millions of cases in cold-storage. He must do the necessary cleansing in court-system, because "justice delayed is justice denied". Then, the 'mafia groups' getting first class bed, breakfast, phone, a/c in 'Adiala-jail', as againstv the other prisoners rotting in third-class, must attract attention to prove that 'Justice is for all on equitable basis'. This opinion is posted with due respect and humble submission. Mr.CJP, people love you for dynamism and impartiality.

Why did CJ not issue a notices to CM Punjab and the MNA who interrogated a uniformed officer which they had no right to do? If a civilian unlawfully did this to a police officer in the US, he would be publicly handcuffed arrested and taken to court immediately no matter how “powerful” the civilian is.

It has taken decades for this culture to grow in Pakistan. Anyone who thinks it would vanish overnight needs to think again. It would be a great success of the new administration can manage to reduce the frequency of such occurrences. Don't expect the country to be rid of such events in a few years.

Misbehaving and fleecing the citizens by Punjab Police is a norm and order of the day. Senior police officers behave like kings and lower level human resource is worst in any of the government departments. Check posts on the roads are the main source of income generated through bribery and shares go up to senior levels. Most of the police personal live beyond their means, they misbehave, humiliate and beat citizens in front of their families. Police must have done wrong at the first hand with Maneka, which might have prompted him to escape to avoid misbehavior by police. Its the time for government to nail down this criminal force, once and forever!

Whatever happened was a police matter and no one else should have gotten involved. There is only one question to answer; was Gondal invited to CM's office? If he was for whatever reason/excuse then everyone involved, including CM must be fired.

It’s not hard to believe that arrogance rests with the Farid Maneka. He should not behave like a VIP or something above law, he has no prerogative to call DPO at his place and apologize . CJP is requested to reinstate the DPO, and Farid Maneka be
asked to respect law, and do not grandiose himself as de facto PM.
