LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has requested the Punjab government to release a supplementary grant of Rs129.414 million for the purchase of 46 brand new cars for as many judges.

It is reliably learnt that the court’s registrar office has sought chief minister’s approval for the provision of supplementary grant for the procurement of 46 new Honda Civic (1800cc) Oriel CVT.

The registrar office has quoted manufacturer’s price (ex-factory rate) of a car at Rs2.728 million, adding that the total cost of 46 cars will be Rs125.488 million plus Rs3.926 million for vehicles registration.

The registrar office has requested the chief minister for approval, in principle, of the provision of supplementary grant of Rs129.414 million during the current financial year 2018-19.

Sources in the Punjab government say the demand for release of supplementary grant requires approval by the finance department as well as the Punjab cabinet.
