CHITRAL: The Communication and Works Department will plant 6,000 saplings on the roadsides in Chitral during the current plantation campaign which will be used as landslide control regime in the hilly terrains, according to executive engineer Maqbool Azam.

The official launched the campaign by planting a deodar sapling on the premises of his office here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that this was for the first time that the C&W Department was participating in the campaign.

He said that tree plantation had become inevitable in Chitral keeping in view its topography where landslides damaged the roads every year and road blockades created problems for the passengers.

He said that with the technical assistance of forest department such species of plants would be selected for plantation which had deep roots and capable of protecting the soil from erosion.
