HYDERABAD, June 12: An amount of Rs71 million for Hyderabad has been released out of a total allocation of Rs1 billion for the special projects which were announced by the Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Local Government, Kutchi Abadis and Spatial Development, here last month.

Official sources told this correspondent that following the pre-qualification process of contractors for various works of the projects, the same had been sent to the consultant of the Hyderabad Development Package, M/S Osmani and Company, for scrutiny.

The works were already part of the Rs10.5 billion HDP, for which, the Sindh government had allocated Rs1 billion in the current fiscal year to match a similar release of funds by the federal government; however, the latter did not release the funds, the sources added.

The sources said that since it was very likely that the Rs1 billion funds would lapse, they had been diverted to the projects which included water supply, filter plants, improvement of graveyards, setting up of parks and flyovers.

The sources said that past performance of the contractors would be kept in view while assigning the works.—Correspondent
