More women-led movies from Marvel

Wonder Woman has shown that, when executed properly, woman-led superhero films can be just as good as their male counterparts. Marvel is already preparing to launch its first woman-led superhero movie next year in the form of the long-anticipated Captain Marvel, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

“With Ant-Man and The Wasp, now with Captain Marvel and many movies to be announced in the near future, I’m anxious for the time where it’s not a novelty that there is a female-led superhero movie, but it is a norm,” said Feige in an interview. “And it is less a story of, ‘Oh, look, a female hero,’ and it’s more a story of, ‘Oh, what’s this about? Who’s this character? I’m excited to see that.’ And I think we can get there.”

As of this point, the only other woman-led superhero movie Marvel has in development is a Black Widow solo.

Superman: The movie returning for 40th anniversary

Director Richard Donner’s 1978 live-action Man of Steel film will return to theatres to celebrate its 40th anniversary, a limited release hosted by Fathom Events.

While this film made an impact with its characters, Superman: The Movie, also introduced the world to John William’s unforgettable Superman theme song, which is widely considered to be the definitive Superman theme song.

According to Fandango, the screenings — which is listed as Superman 40th Anniversary — will take place on November 25. The next all-new live-action DC movie, James Wan’s Aquaman, will open about a month later, on December 21.

Superman: The Movie is widely praised for its lighter tone and Reeve’s performance as the hopeful hero. While the live-action franchise overstayed its welcome (the third and fourth Reeve Superman films take a noticeable dip in quality), Reeve’s take on the character is often cited as the go-to example of how Superman should be portrayed.

Fast & Furious 9 to start next year

It looks like Vin Diesel is going to be getting the family back together for another ride next spring. According to a new report, Fast & Furious 9 is aiming to begin production in April 2019. That will give Universal just about a year to get the movie ready as they currently have the release date set for April 20, 2020.

Originally, the plan was to have Fast & Furious 9 ready to go for 2019, but that didn’t exactly work out. Much of that had to do with the fact that Dwayne Johnson managed to put together a spin-off cantered on his character Luke Hobbs, which will co-star Jason Statham’s character and sees them team-up for their own adventure.
