KOHAT: The district council in unanimously passed resolutions on Friday demanded of the government to fill hundreds of posts in the education sector and establish parent-teacher councils.

It also approved elevation of three high schools to the higher secondary level and called for establishment of public safety commission and banning visits of medical representatives during the OPD timings in hospitals.

The council session was held at the council’s hall, which was presided over by convener Abdur Rasheed and attended by district nazim Naseem Afridi and councillors. They discussed the performance of education, health and revenue departments and approved certain resolutions for their smooth functioning.

The nazim and councillors, including Dr Matiullah Shah, Mehtabul Hassan, Shaukat Khan, Fareed advocate and Musawar Khan, took part in the debate and asked the government departments to implement the council’s resolutions.

DRUG LICENCES: Assistant commissioner of Darra Adamkhel sub-division, Abbas Afridi has asked the owners of medical stores to obtain licences as they now fell in the purview of Drug Regulatory Authority and ordered the vegetable and fruit sellers to display proper rate lists at their shops.

He asked the businessmen to follow all rules of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government after the merger of Fata with the province. He visited the bazaar and checked bakeries and medical stores.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Khalid Ilyas appealed to the public to keep watch on their surroundings and immediately report to the administration in case they noticed any suspicious activity or a person.

Talking to mediapersons in his office on Friday, he said that security arrangements had been made to ensure peace in Kohat during Muharram. He said that all deployments at imambaraghs, mosques and shrines had been made, while every vehicle leaving or entering the city was being checked and red alert had been issued.

He said that patrolling on foot and vehicles had been increased on all roads and routes.
