Abdullah, Zoha and Yahya win Open tennis titles

KARACHI: Brilliant Abdullah Adnan overcame stiff challenge from Ahmed Kamil in the under-18 final to win the title while talented Zoha Asim cruised past Varsha Das in straight set to win the under-18 girls title at the 7th Essa lab Open National Junior & Seniors Tennis Championship which concluded here at the DA Creek Club on Friday night.

In the under-14 singles final, Yahya Ehtasham beat Asher Mir after a tense contest to win the title.

Nasira Tajammul of ODGC was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes worth rupees one hundred thousand among the winners and runner-ups of various events. Meanwhile, Dr Farhan Essa promised to continue this national grade-1 tournament in the years to come.

Tournament director Khalid Rahmani announced on the occasion that to more national level tennis tournaments will be held in October and November. Giving details, he said that Nemos ATF-14 Asian ranking tournament shall also be held in Karachi during October while two Sindh Sport Board sponsored Sindh Ranking tournaments will also be held in Larkana and Karachi later this year.

Former Davis Cupper Khawaja Saeed Hai, Dr Naheed Khan, Dr Asma Shah and others were also present on the occasion.

U-14 singles (Final) Yahya Ehtasham bt Asher Mir 7-6, 6-1
U-18 Girls singles (Final) Zoha Asim bt Varsha Das 6-0-6-0
35-Plus singles (Final) Asad Ali Bahgat bt Vinod Das 8-6.
