LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday directed the Punjab police chief to immediately arrest Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Junaid Arshad who is allegedly involved in cyber-harassment of his former wife.
The CJP was hearing an application moved by Ayesha Subhani, the DIG’s former wife.
The applicant said the Federal Investigation Agency’s cybercrime wing had lodged a case against the DIG for blackmailing her with the assistance of a friend, Danish Ghani, by uploading her objectionable pictures on social media. Ms Subhani told the CJP that a sessions court had dismissed the bail petition of DIG Arshad but the police were reluctant to arrest him.
The CJP expressed his dismay and questioned whether police officers were above the law. He ordered the Punjab IGP to immediately arrest DIG Arshad and furnish a compliance report by Sunday.
The CJP further directed the interior ministry to put the DIG’s name on the exit control list.
