PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government plans to set up a modern squash academy here in order to train the players under qualified coaches.
This was disclosed by Director General Sports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junaid Khan while talking to mediapersons here the other day after awarding a shield to Hamza Sharif for winning the recently concluded National Junior Squash Championship.
Mr Khan had invited Sharif and his squash coach of the directorate of sports, Mohammad Waseem, to his office and promised him all out support in his future undertakings.
The DG sports said the government had already chalked out a plan to provide facilities to emerging players at the grassroots level.
He lauded Hamza for making three upsets during the national event. Hamza also recorded victory against Pakistan’s number one under-17 category player, Farhan Hashmi, who has been selected to represent the country in the forthcoming Asia Cup.
The DG sports said work continued on construction of a modern and well-equipped squash complex in the vicinity of Peshawar Sports Complex. He said soon after completion of the complex, a full-fledge squash academy would be set up in order to train and coach the squash players under qualified coaches of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa directorate of sports.
He said the Qamar Zaman Squash Complex would be complete at Rs100 million, also having the facility of a modern gym for both male and female players.
