The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday granted bail to two men suspected to be involved in the murder of Charnjeet Singh, a social activist and prominent member of the Sikh community in Peshawar.

Singh had been on his way home from his shop when unidentified men opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. The attackers immediately fled after having committed the crime.

The incident had occurred in the Scheme Chowk area on Kohat Road within the limits of Inquilab police station.

The Sikh activist had been murdered on May 29, subsequently, two men — Shehryar and Tariq — were arrested on June 14 and 21, respectively. However, police have not been able to prove the charges levelled against the suspects.

While speaking to media following the Monday's hearing, the defendants' lawyer said Singh's family did not record any statement against them and thus the court has given the orders for Tariq and Shehryar on bail.
