GWADAR: Police have foiled a drug smuggling attempt and seized 300kg of hashish. They have also arrested a suspected drug smuggler.

Police officers Abdul Rahim Lasi and Muhammad Ibrahim Muhammad Hasni disclosed this while briefing the media on Monday.

They said acting on a tip-off about the smuggling attempt police personnel raided a house in Naiyaabad area of the port city and recovered 300kg of fine quality hashish.

“The consignment of hashish was dumped in the house for its shipment to Middle East and European counties,” police officer Lasi claimed. He said a man identified as Muhammad Tufail present in the house at the time of the raid was taken into custody. Other drug smugglers had fled before the raid, he added. The officer said the seized hashish was worth millions of dollars in the international market.

Meanwhile, police seized 48kg of hashish from a tractor trolley in Dera Allahyar town of Jaffarabad district. Excise and Taxation Officer Habibullah Jamali said that the seized hashish was being transported from Quetta to a town in Sindh. Packets of hashish were sealed inside the tractor trolley.

Hazar Khan Brohi, a resident of Usta Muhammad, was arrested.
