DADU: The district police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a terror suspect and seized a suicide jacket, hand grenades and other explosive material from him.

Officials claimed that the suspect, Naveed Ahmed, had links with Al Qaeda, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and other proscribed outfits. “He is involved in the infamous Safoora Goth [Karachi] carnage,” he further claimed.

Dadu SSP Tanvir Tunio told local reporters that the suspect, Naveed, crossed the Khirthar range to enter Sindh from Balochistan when police arrested him within the catchment area of the Nai Gaaj dam.

The SSP said that the suspect was trained in Afghanistan and had sneaked into Sindh via Balochistan with intention to carry out more terrorist attacks.

An FIR (11/2018) was registered against him under Section 3/4 of the Explosives Act at the Nai Gaaj police station and his physical remand for seven days was obtained from the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Naushahro Feroze.

According to Nai Gaaj SHO Abdul Ghafoor, Naveed is a resident of Hyderabad. However, he avoided to comment on the SSP’s claim about seizure of suicide jacket and other explosives from him, saying that one hand grenade was indeed found in his possession.

Sources in the district police said that Naveed was wanted in six cases of terrorist activities registered against him at different police stations of Hyderabad district.
