Faisalabad clinch U-16 rugby championship

LAHORE: Faisalabad beat Fort Abbas in extra time sudden death by 15-10 to win the Dell Gaming Under-16 Rugby Championship here at the Pakistan Rugby Academy, Lahore Cantt in front of a sizeable crowd on Friday.

Eight teams from across Pakistan participated in the championship which were divided into two groups. Group A comprised Faisalabad, Lodhran, Islamabad and Vehari while Group B included Fort Abbas, Sheikhupura, Karachi and Farooq Abad. Top team from each group will qualify for the main final.

The final was full of excitement and lot of energy seen in a match where rain always a factor but both teams displayed quality skills. In the first half, Fort Abbass dominated with two try scored by Ali Raza. In the second half, Faisalabad came from behind and Fahad and Ali scored one try each to level the score.

At the end of the second half, the match was level. When it went into extra time on sudden death, Faisalabad player Fahad scored to win the tournament for his team.

In the closing ceremony, chief guest was Sajjad Ali of Dell Pakistan and distributed the prizes. Also present were Pakistan Rugby Union chairman Fawzi Khawaja and secretory Khurram Khawaja.
