Gwadar to become economic hub, says minister

GWADAR: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi has said that with full functioning of its port Gwadar will become the future economic hub of the country.

The minister said this during his visit to Gwadar Port along with Karachi Port Trust (KPT) chairman Rear Admiral Jameel Akhtar on Saturday.

The minister reviewed the pace of work at different under-construction projects in Gwadar. The chairman of Gwadar Port Authority, Mir Dostain Khan Jamaldini, and Chairman of China Overseas Port Holding Company Limited (COPHC), Mr Zhang Baozhong, and other port officials briefed the federal minister on different projects.

Mr Zaidi also visited Business Complex, Gwadar Port International Terminal, Gwadar Port Free Zone and Desalination Plant in the Free Zone area.

During the briefing, the chairman of Gwadar Port Authority informed the federal minister about different ongoing projects, including Gwadar Port Free Zone, Gwadar Port Master Plan and Eastbay Expressway Projects.

The federal minister also visited the under-construction Gwadar Eastbay Expressway Project.

The project director and Chinese engineers working on the project informed the minister about problems they were facing in completion of the project.

KPT’s senior officers Mehmood Moulvi and Sultan Ali Alana were also present on the occasion.
