KARACHI: Top seed Hareem Anwar was stretched to limits by second seed Maria Tazeem in an agonising clash before capturing the girls U-18 title and denying her opponent to complete a double in the fourth Sindh Sports Board (SSB) ranking table tennis tournament at the SSB Sports Complex, Nazimabad the other day.

Hareem seized the lead twice before Maria fought back and drew level at two-all in the best of five final. Finally Hareem managed to win the decisive frame to hog limelight. She won the duel 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8.

Upcoming Maria, however, justified her top seeding by getting the better of third seed Hoor Fawwad straight 11-5, 11-7, 11-7 to annex the girls U-15 crown.

Hareem and Maria are still in contention for a double crown as they have cruised into the women’s final registering contrasting victories. Hareem halted the winning run of Qurat Sakina 11-7, 11-4, 11-13, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10 while Maria defeated Noreen Farhan 11-5, 11-9, 15-13, 11-9.

Meanwhile, top seed Furqan Patel and fourth seed Shayan Saleem completed the final lineup by winning their respective semi-finals. The former was home 11-7, 11-5, 11-9 over Asad Sajwani while the latter carved out 11-8, 11-9, 10-12, 13-11 victory over Raza Abbas.
