Taylor Swift becomes the most awarded female artist by AMA

Taylor Swift broke the record for most American Music Award wins by a female artist.

Swift won AMA awards for Tour of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Pop/Rock Female Artist and Best Pop/Rock Album for Reputation.

The wins brought her lifetime total so far to 22, surpassing the previous record of 21 held by the late Whitney Houston. The all-time leader is Michael Jackson, who had 24 AMA wins before his death in 2009.

During one of her acceptance speeches, Swift thanked her fans.

“[If] you didn’t want to hang out with us, we wouldn’t have been on an amazingly fun stadium tour,” she said.

While accepting her award for the Artist of the Year, Swift called for her fans to head to the polls. “Thank you for this incredible symbol of encouragement,” she told her fans. “And I just wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people, and you know what else is voted on by people — is the midterm elections on Nov 6. Get out and vote. I love you guys!”

Depp return in Fantastic Beasts 3

Following his official debut in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Johnny Depp confirms that he’ll reprise his role as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.

Since the saga is set decades before the main continuity (Fantastic Beasts), it also features some familiar key players like Nicholas Flamel and a young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), linking both timelines in the franchise together. The sequel follows the events of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with Grindelwald successfully escaping and continuing his villainous schemes. Young Dumbledore teams up with Newt to take down Grindelwald once and for all, and it’ll also present a brand new threat to the underground Wizarding World.

Speaking with Collider, Depp talked about his experience being part of the Wizarding World and confirmed that he will continue to be involved in it, at least until the third film in the Fantastic Beasts series wraps up.

It remains to be seen how The Crimes of Grindelwald will perform at the box office, which hits theatres soon.

First poster for Disney’s live-action Aladdin

Next year, Disney classic Aladdin will become one of several animated films to receive a live-action remake, with Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritche helming the film.

Among those in cast will be Will Smith, who plays the wisecracking, pop culture reference spouting Genie, voiced in the original by the late Robin Williams. Earlier today, Smith granted fans’ wishes by unveiling the first poster for the film.

The poster places the magic lamp on display, though this time it has a more detailed design and curvier handle. The bottom of the lamp glows with a purple light and a blue wisp of smoke trails out of the lamp’s spout, obviously meant to reference Genie. The tagline, “Choose Wisely,” hovers in front of the stone pedestal the lamp sits upon.

Global Icon Award for Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson is set to receive this year’s Global Icon Award at MTV’s European Music Awards. Jackson will collect the honour at the ceremony on November 4 in Bilbao, Spain, where she will also perform a medley of her greatest hits, including recent hit “Made for Now.”

“Janet is without question one of the world’s biggest stars,” said Bruce Gillmer, global head of music and talent, Viacom and co-brand head, MTV International. “Her incredible artistry has opened doors for countless others while leaving an indelible impact on pop culture — well over three decades and counting. We’re thrilled to honour her as this year’s MTV Global Icon.”

Jackson is one of the best-selling artists of all time with global sales of over 160 million records. She has won six Grammys and seven American Music Awards, as well as receiving Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for original song “Again” from 1993’s “Poetic Justice,” and two Emmy nominations. Her latest hit, “Made for Now,” with Daddy Yankee debuted top of the iTunes charts with the video generating nearly 45 million views.
