MANSEHRA: Provincial deputy director (small dams) Mohammad Zubair on Tuesday inaugurated work on the Munchora water reservoir meant to irrigate a vast land in Agror and Tanawal areas of Oghi tehsil.

“Water of this dam will be used first to irrigate land bringing prosperity in the life of local residents and then produce one megawatt electricity,” Mr Zubair told the Munchora dam inauguration ceremony.

He said the right and left bank canals would be sunk to irrigate agricultural land in parts of Oghi tehsil.

“This project will be completed at the estimated cost of Rs2 billion,” he said.

In response to question asked by local village council nazims including Mian Ghulam Mohammad, Anwarul Islam and Shaukat Hayat, Mr Zubair said owners of the houses to be submerged by the dam water would be paid for built-up property’s prices along with trees and other goods.

He said the local residents would be appointed to the dam project.

VACCINATION: Over 3,000 Afghan children living in Mansehra district are being protected against measles during the ongoing vaccination campaign, said the health department.

“We have been administering measles vaccine to over 3,000 Afghan children living in three refugee camps of the district as they’re vulnerable to measles and other diseases,” focal person for the anti-measles campaign Dr Nasir Rabbi told reporters here on Tuesday.

He said over 20,000 Afghan refugees lived in Khaki, Barari and Ichrian refugee camps, where the health department’s teams were administering anti-measles vaccine to them.

Dr Nasir said the United Nations Children’s Fund helped the district health department in the campaign.

Meanwhile, the health department administered vaccine to over 100 children at Khaki camp.

During the campaign slated to end on Oct 27, 253,000 children will be vaccinated against measles in the district.
