Adam Sandler returns to stand up comedy
Adam Sandler is back to telling jokes in front of a live audience in a new trailer for upcoming Netflix comedy special, 100% Fresh.
Sandler, in addition to telling jokes and sharing real-life stories, will also be performing new original songs.
“Daddy’s gonna do some comedy,” Sandler says in the trailer as he brings out his dog onstage during a performance.
Sandler appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he discussed the project, the fact that he hasn’t done stand-up in 20 years and that his celebrity friends Jennifer Aniston and Bono both gave the comedy special glowing reviews.
“I didn’t ever expect to do this ever again. I was so happy to become a movie star,” Sandler said about returning to stand-up. “All my friends do stand-up still and they kept talking to me about how much fun they have on the road so I started doing it again.”
New Tom and Jerry movie expected
Warner Bros. has had plans to bring Tom and Jerry back to cinemas for a few years, looking to set them up in a live-action/CG characters family movie. Now we know that Ride Along director Tim Story will be in charge of making that happen. The cameras are expected to crank next year.
The latest cinematic adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cat-and-mouse slapstick comedy cartoons has been in the works at Warners since at least 2009. And while the idea of having them in a live-action world with real-life actors around them feels a little odd, given the fluid nature of the comedy and action in a typical cartoon, the studio is at least being smart and stopping short of giving them voices beyond the odd yelp or shout. So don’t expect Kevin Hart and Ice Cube to be hitting the recording booth any time soon.
Superman TV show in development
A new report suggests that The CW is considering launching a new Superman TV series. It’s claimed that this year’s Arrow verse crossover event, Else Worlds, will essentially serve as a backdoor pilot to the show. Its ultimate fate will depend on how viewers respond to the characters in the event.
Tyler Hoechlin was introduced as The CW’s Superman back in 2016, when he first appeared as a guest star in Supergirl Season 2. The actor was universally praised for his portrayal of the Man of Steel, which seemed to channel the classic Christopher Reeve like no other version seen before. He’s set to return in this year’s Else worlds crossover, and will be accompanied by Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane.
The CW is treating Else Worlds as a backdoor pilot for a Superman TV series. The CW will be carefully watching how fans and critics alike respond to Hoechlin and Tulloch.
