Unbelievably Boring Bart, by James Patterson is a book about a boy, Bart, which most boys can easily relate to and enjoy his story. He has moved into a new town and new school and is having the usual problems of being bullied and having no friends.
But Bart finds a way to keep himself happy and busy by creating an online video game. But things get out of hand one day when he is badly bullied at school and one of the bullies steals his phone and publishes his game online. In no time, Bart’s new game is the most popular thing in school and in the town, with everyone, including some teachers, is busy on their phones chasing aliens!
Bart never planned for this and he is not ready to own the game, but situations get out of hand for him and his dull life is suddenly not so boring anymore.
Bart, is a very likeable character, just nerdy enough to appeal to preteens, and the story is fast-paced and fun. With its short chapters and interesting illustrations, Unbelievably Boring Bart is not too wordy as much of the action and emotions are well expressed in the drawings, making it very readable for middle school children who are just branching out to reading children’s novels.
