SUKKUR: A man and a woman were shot dead in the name of honour in Kalwari village within the police limits of Salehpat in Sukkur district on Friday.

Sikandar Ali Shambani surrendered himself before the police claiming that he had shot dead his wife, Sanam, 20, daughter of Abdul Latif Gopang, at their house in the village for maintaining an “extramarital affair”. He told police that he then shot dead her friend, Qalandar Bux Shambani, 23, son of Fattu Shambani.

The police took the crime weapon, a pistol, into their custody and started an investigation into the matter.

They also collected the bodies and transported them to the Rohri taluka hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Sikandar Shambani told local reporters that he had wedded Sanam about a year ago.

Meanwhile, Sanam’s mother rejected Sikandar’s allegation and demanded an inquiry into her murder. She was yet to lodge an FIR against him.
