SWABI: The students of University of Swabi, Women University Swabi and several public and private colleges have been facing transport problems, as these institutions have not provided them with transportation facilities.
Also, the public transporters continue to exploit the hapless students by charging heavy fares as they have no option, but to reach the institution and acquire education. In such condtions, the girl students are the worst sufferers because they could not travel in risky ways like boys who could ride on top of buses and pickups.
A great rush of girl students could be seen on Swabi-Mardan road at Shagai bus stop waiting for transport. The parents said that in order to encourage girls to acquire quality education there should be transport facility to enable them to go to their institutions and return homes in a dignified way.
A number of students of private colleges said that they had made their own arrangements like hiring an auto-rickshaw or van for pick and drop. Similarly, the private schools charge more transportation charges than what the students give to the public transport every month.
CHARGE ASSUMED: Dr Fasiur Rehman took charge as acting principal of Gajju Khan Medical College, Swabi, on Saturday.
Dr Rehman was appointed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on the recommendation of departmental selection committee.
It has been learnt that the college was without principal for several months and now acting principal has been appointed to run the affairs of the institution. It was learnt that a permanent principal of the college would be appointed very soon.
