LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar sees the country in ‘take-off’ position for economic progress.

“The country faces many problems which need to be fixed. For the first time it seems the country is taking off towards progress and we will soon reach the destination of prosperity,” he said while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the 975th Urs of Hazrat Ali Bin Usman Al-Hajveri (popularly known as Data Ganj Bakhsh) here on Sunday.

The CJP said the nation was actively donating to the dam fund and the country needed to build more dams on a priority basis. “We should love this country. A lot of sacrifices have been made for it.”

Some devotees also submitted cheques for the dam fund during his visit.

FRAUD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan ordered police on Sunday to arrest a revenue staffer (patwari) involved in illegal transfer of agriculture land.

The CJP was hearing a complaint of fraud at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

Patwari Rana Javed was present in the court where he exchanged harsh words with Asia, one of the the owners of the land. Miss Asia pleaded before the court that the Patwari was involved in fraud and had transferred their 90 acres land after intoxicating her mentally challenged father.

She pleaded that the court should order the authorities to recover their land from the patwari and also hand over to them the land possession.

On the order of the CJP, police arrested the patwari.

PROTEST: People affected by Eden Housing Society on Sunday held a demonstration outside the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry.

A number of people including women gathered outside the court and chanted slogans against the Eden Housing Society administration.
