DADU, June 19: Residents of Johi held a demonstration on Sunday to protest against local officials of the Zamzama field of the BHP company. They were led by Johi taluka PPP president and Abadgar Association leader Khamiso Khan Panhwar and social worker Mumtaz Ahmad.

Speaking on the occasion, Bashir Ahmad Thaheem accused officials of the community welfare department of the company of embezzling a huge amount of money through some NGOs working in health, education and other social sectors.

He claimed that since 1998, no local had been appointed in the Zamzama field. He said the company had failed to control pollution in the area which was causing diseases among villagers.

Khamiso Panhwar and Mumtaz Ahmad demanded that high officials of the BHP should resolve the issue. They said accounts of the community welfare should be audited.

They also demanded compensation to local people for their lands obtained by the company.

When contacted, DCO Aijaz Ahmad Mangi said an inquiry would be held against NGOs working in health, education and other sectors in Johi and if any NGO was found guilty, its registration would be cancelled.

PROTEST: Residents of Khanote town held a protest demonstration on the Indus Highway on Sunday against the rise in crimes in the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Allah Dino said eight armed men had blocked the Indus Highway at the shrine of Dadshaheed near Aliabad on Sunday morning and attempted to kidnap his three family members, Malookan, Saeeda and Ali Dino. He said the armed men had beaten up his family members and as a result they had fallen unconscious. He said the accused had escaped when villagers had reached there. He said the accused had looted other passengers.

He alleged that local police officials were supporting criminals which had led to the increase in road robberies.
