KARACHI: Two ministers of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s government in Sindh on Saturday met the party chairman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, at Bilawal House and informed him about their performance in the education and transport sectors, the two areas deemed on top of the party’s priorities, officials said.

Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Sardar Shah informed the PPP chairman that his ministry had begun taking steps to update curriculum, syllabus and textbooks to align them with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

The party officials quoted the minister as telling the PPP chief that to promote female education, the government was paying stipend of Rs3,500 to 340,000 female students every year and Sindh was the only province which was offering such a facility to promote girls’ literacy.

He also informed him about various other indicators, which had been poor in the past and the ministry was trying to improve them.

Meanwhile, Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Awais Qadir Shah also called on Mr Bhutto-Zardari and briefed him on the government’s plans to improve the transport system in the province, including Karachi.

He was quoted by a party spokesperson as informing the PPP chairman that the government would run the Green Line bus project through its own kitty.

The minister told Mr Bhutto-Zardari that 80 per cent work on that project had been completed. However, the delays were primarily owing to “unnecessary hiccups being created by the federal government”, he said.

The party spokesperson quoted the PPP chairman as telling the minister to complete the project as early as possible.
