SWABI: Lack of parking spaces coupled with wrong parking is not only obstructing smooth flow of traffic but also troubling shoppers in the district headquarters and the Topi’s main bazaar.

The problem is that there is no proper place for parking vehicles and usually the people park their cars and other vehicles on the roadside, causing difficulties in smooth flow of traffic on one hand and disturbing pedestrians on the other.

Locals said along with developing proper parking venues there was an urgent need to clear the areas of encroachments.

In the district headquarters, the situation is worst in main markets along the Swabi-Mardan and Swabi-Jehangira roads and link road bazaar.

In Topi, it is difficult to get a foothold in the main bazaar throughout the day due to heavy traffic because the bazaar is narrow and there is no footpath for pedestrians.

PLAN DERIVED DRUGS: No one could deny the significance of drugs derived from plants and in improving the human health, Dr Hidayat Hussain, a professor in the Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry Halle, Germany, said here on Monday.

He was delivering a lecture on plant derived drugs and their importance at the Women University Swabi here on Monday.

The lecture was attended by faculty members and students of various departments. Dr. Hidayat’s lecture covered introduction to the medicinal plants, bioactive ingredients and their uses for curing different chronic and fatal diseases, including cancer, hepatitis, diabetics etc.

The lecture was followed by a question/answer session. He guided the faculty members and students for availing the PhD/post-doc scholarships in Germany.

The faculty members and students said it was really encouraging to get higher education in Germany in such a field.

Earlier, Dr Khanzadi Fatima Khattak, the vice-chancellor, lauded Dr Hussain for sparing time to visit the university and deliver a lecture.

She said they would make every effort for acquainting the students with latest developments in the field as the university was committed to empowering young females through higher education, research, innovation and technology. At the end, the vice chancellor presented a souvenir to the guest speaker.
