LARKANA: The vice chancellor of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) after taking over the charge has started to reshuffle key posts in the institution.

Prof Dr Aneela Atta-ur-Rehman was made new vice chancellor of the SMBBMU Larkana and she took charge of the institution on September 25 after the seat fell vacant when the resignation of Prof Dr Ghulam Asghar Channa as VC was accepted in the second week of July 2018, the sources in the university said on Tuesday.

Earlier as a stopgap arrangement Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza Pathan was made the acting VC from whom she had taken over the charge.

She brought in first change by making Engineer Roshan Ali Shaikh director of information technology for which Registrar Prof Dr Afsar Bhutto had issued orders on Sept 29.

Prior to this position, the registrar had been holding the very charge, the sources said adding that in the orders he [the registrar] wrote that he had been spared of looking after the duties of director of IT.

She also changed Majid Samo, who had been holding the charge of director of human resource and was made assistant director of HR-II while Ghulam Asghar Bhutto was made assistant director HR-I.

Later on Prof Dr Shahida Begum, professor of gynaecology and obstetrics Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women, was assigned the charge of additional registrar of the SMBBMU on October 30.

Terming the arrangement in the interest of the university, the order said that all previous orders issued in connection with the charge of additional registrar had been cancelled/withdrawn with immediate effect.

Dr Atta Mohammad Siddiqi, who had earlier been holding the charge of additional registrar, was replaced with Prof Dr Shahida.

On Sept 30 Dr Hifaz-u-din Abro, lecturer at the Chandka Medical College, was assigned the charge of deputy registrar (admin) in addition to his own duties.

The HR director with the approval of the vice chancellor issued order on Sept 30 wherein Fahad Jibran Siyal, assistant professor of pharmacy, was entrusted with the charge of deputy registrar (academics) of SMBBMU.

The order said the vice chancellor had expressed desire that academic matters of the university be managed and recorded efficiently and effectively and in this connection the position of deputy registrar (academics) shall also be created in the forthcoming meeting of finance and planning committee and subsequent syndicate of SMBBMU Larkana duly completing all formalities.

As changes have started coming in, the part of university staff that earlier had been housed in the buildings of Chandka Medical College Larkana was shifted to its main campus established near Arija town on Airport Road.

The VC and the registrar along with the director finance had shifted their offices there.

Many more changes were on the cards, the sources said.
