KARAK: About 100 small dams can be constructed across the three tehsils of Karak district from the oil and gas royalty funds to resolve the acute water shortage problem.

This was stated by district director of soil conservation department Mohammad Yasin Wazir while talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday.

He said there were feasible sites for building 100 small dams in all the three tehsils, including Karak, Takht-i-Nusrati and Banda Daud Shah, adding one dam could be completed at a cost of just Rs1million to Rs3 million.

Mr Wazir stressed that the district needed more small dams to resolve water shortage issue on a permanent basis. The soil conservation officer said all the dams could be completed at Rs150 million with proper planning.

Meanwhile, Khattak Ittehad president Khursheed Sultan has demanded of the government to divert a portion of the oil and gas royalty funds for construction of small dams in the district. He also demanded of the elected representatives to focus on construction of small dams.

He resolved that a committee would be formed to hold talks with the local lawmakers to inform them about the importance of building small dams in the district.

PAINTING COMPETITION: A drawing competition highlighting the menace of corruption in society was held on Tuesday among the students of Khushal Khan Khattak University.

The activity was held under the aegis of religious and character building society of the university on the directives of Kohat division commissioner. Deputy Provost Zulfiqar Ali Anjum, who was the chief guest, appreciated the work of students for painting the sketches on paper highlighting the negative affects corruption was leaving on the society.

First position in the painting competition was secured by Fawad Ali Shah, second by Naveed Raza and third by Yasir Muneer.
