KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has summoned a senior superintendent of police (SSP) after his ex-wife complained about alleged torture and keeping the children away from her and also ordered medical examination of the woman.

The SHC also directed the provincial police officer to provide protection to the woman and her parents, asking the vice chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences to select a competent and honest doctor to examine the petitioner.

A single bench of SHC headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar directed Dadu SSP Pervez Umrani to also bring three children along with him on Nov 13.

The petitioner through her lawyer moved the SHC and contended that she had married the SSP about 13 years ago and out of the wedlock, they had four children aged between two-and-half to 12 years. But the police officer divorced her last year after contracting second marriage, she said.

She alleged that her ex-husband maltreated her and she received multiple injuries. She maintained that she was residing with her parents after the divorce and since then she had not been allowed to meet her three children allegedly kept by the SSP in improper custody.

She also contended that her ex-husband was a very influential person and expressed the apprehension that he could cause harm to her as well as deprive her of the custody of her two-and-half-year-old son.
