LAHORE: While top seed Aqeel Khan had an easy sailing in his pre-quarterfinal, another seeded player Mohammad Abid struggled to win his last-16 match of the third Nayza All-Pakistan Open Tennis Championship here at the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association courts on Friday.

Veteran Aqeel comfortably defeated Asadullah 6-3, 6-3 in their men’s singles match that ended in just 22 minutes. Abid recovered from one set down to subdue Ahmed Chaudhry 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in their pre-quarterfinal lasting 30 minutes.

In another thrilling last-16 clash, Mohammad Shoaib was stretched to three sets before he overwhelmed Ahmed Babar 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Heera Ashiq, Yousuf Khalil, Abdul Haider, Muzammil Murtaza and Mudassir Murtaza registered straight set victories to reach men’s singles quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, seven first-round matches of boys U-18 and six of boys U-14 were also decided.
