BAHAWALPUR: Two hundred and sixty-eight people were arrested recently for power pilferage in the district.
This was stated in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Shozab Saeed in connection with the electricity theft on Friday.
The meeting was informed strict surveillance and monitoring of the industrial, commercial and domestic consumers was in the progress.
Within less than a month’s time, 326 cases of power pilferage were reported in which 268 consumers were arrested. Out of them, charge sheet against 82 arrested persons was submitted to the courts.
The DC directed the officials of the Multan Electric Supply Company (Mepco) to take strict action against power thieves.

Mepco Superintending Engineer Jam Gul Muhammad, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Headquarters Dr Saifullah Bhatti and others were present.
BDA: After a lapse of months, a meeting of the Bahawalpur Development Authority (BDA) was held to review the development projects in the city.
It was held in the background of the appointment of its Chairman Malik Muhammad Aamir, a worker of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
The office of the BDA chairman along with the post of managing director (MD) had been lying vacant during the government of Shahbaz Sharif.
Malik Aamir apprised the meeting of the plans for the city’s uplift and beautification, including the under-construction BDA Complex, and the need to fill the employees’ vacant posts.
ARRESTED: Owners of 10 brick kilns were arrested to flouting the ban on kilns in the district.
According to ADC Dr Saifullah Bhatti, nine suspects had sought a stay from the high court. He claimed that so far, 290 kilns were following the ban.
BOOKED: The Civil Lines police registered a first information report against the unidentified persons for attacking New Central Jail’s warder, Muhammad Akram. He was admitted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH).
