Agreements signed with 10 countries to bring 'looted money' back: PM's special assistant

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Shehzad Akbar has said that the government has signed agreements with 10 countries to bring "the looted money of the nation" back, Radio Pakistan reported on Thursday.
Akbar, while speaking to a private news channel, said that the government has gathered important information about the money and that the details about the Rs700 billion "looted public money" will be shared with the nation through media in due time.
He said that the government will continue the due process of accountability and that a legal process is underway to "bring back the looted money stashed away abroad".
The prime minister's special assistant also said that the government will protect the interests of overseas Pakistanis and the business community will be facilitated for boosting economic activities in the country.
A day earlier, while addressing overseas Pakistanis in Malaysia, Prime Minister Imran Khan had also spoken about the efforts being made to facilitate expats in contributing to the country's economy.

Great work. Repatriating the money will be difficult but atleast the work that is being done will reduce money laundering and parking assets abroad in the future.

Such statements are great for public consumption. 700 billion or USD 5.25 billion is really a big sum to begin with but can he also spell out the exact process and how much time in his opinion will it take to start seeing this money coming back to Pakistan - 6 months / 1 year / 2 year or uncertain.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister is making tall claims. We fully respect his efforts and believe his work is beyond party politics. It will be Interesting how much money has been recovered from people who have properties abroad that were not declared like Aleema Khan. We also want to the amount of money recovered from people that have assets more than there means. Figures are very important as it give satisfaction that money is recovered from criminals and tax dogers will be aware that there turn is coming and they have to deposit penalty before they are caught.

Easier to say then done. By the way Rs.700 Bn is peanut. Simply ask the Dubai authority to submit the list of Pakistani Citizens who have invested in properties there and ask those people to justify their source of income. If you succeed in doing this can move to the next step.
