NAWABSHAH, June 22: Gupchhani Union Council Nazim Engineer Abdul Rasool Brohi has appealed to President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to direct the Sindh government to include the Gupchhani union council in Nawabshah taluka.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, the nazim said that Nawabshah taluka consisting of 27 union councils was bifurcated into two talukas — Daur and Nawabshah — by the Sindh government and the Gupchhani union council was included in Daur taluka, which was an injustice with the people of Gupchhani.

He said that the Gupchhani union council was part of Sanghar district and was included in Nawabshah taluka and district on administrative grounds after a decision of the Sindh High Court in 2001.

He further said that the people of Gupchhani were facing problems as Sanghar was far away and they were happy after inclusion of the Gupchhani union council in Nawabshah but after recent notification of the Sindh government, the people were annoyed and disturbed.

He said that Deh Kalari and Deh Gojro of the Gupchhani union council were 2kms and 4kms, respectively, away from Nawabshah city and after inclusion of the Gupchhani union council in Daur taluka, the people will have to come to Nawabshah first and then to travel about 40kms to reach Daur taluka.

He said that the decision was not justified and about 20,000 people will suffer for life if the decision was not reversed.

He condemned the decision of the Sindh government and appealed to President Gen Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to direct the Sindh government to include the Gupchhani union council in Nawabshah taluka.

He warned that if the matter was not reviewed, the people of Gupchhani will move the courts for justice.

Earlier, hundreds of residents of the Gupchhani union council staged a protest demonstration outside the Gupchhani press club on Tuesday and demanded of the Sindh government to include the Gupchhani union council in Nawabshah taluka.

JAM SAHEB UC: A complete shutter down strike was observed in Jam Saheb on Wednesday on the call of the action committee against the decision of the Sindh government to include the Jam Saheb union council in the newly-created Daur taluka.

Shops on the Jam Saheb-Nawabshah road, Shahpur Chakar Road, 68-Mori Road and Dargah Road remained completely closed.

Protesters took out a procession which after passing through main thoroughfares, culminated on the Jam Saheb-Gupchhani road. Protesters staged a sit-in and observed a token hunger strike and blocked the road for several hours.

Naib Nazim Abdullah Shar and action committee chairman councillor Mohammad Rafiq, Khamiso Khan Vistro of PPP-SB, Ishaque Vistro of PPP and Dr Mohammad Zaman of PML-F said the Sindh government had done injustice with the people of Jam Saheb by including their union council in Daur taluka.
