KARACHI: A smart field that envisaged 10 horses has entered The Shah Mardan Shah II Pir Pagaro VII Memorial Cup which takes place in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

The Memorial Cup, which is an annual feature, was launched in 2013 in the name of the late KRC patron Shah Mardan Shah II Pir Pagaro VII, who died in Jan 2012.

The cup race which is the fourth in racing order will be contested over one mile.

A healthy six-race card has been drawn for the meeting with enormous 49 horses in fray as one-month count down for the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup has started.

The Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup is slated to take place on Dec 30, instead of Dec 25.

Meanwhile, half-a-dozen horses – three from Lahore and as many from Karachi – will make their debit at the course on Saturday.

Sharapova, Skype and Black Secret have come from Lahore while Romeo, Cigar Girl and Glittery Eyes belonged to the Kingree Lodge stud.

The first race starts at 1.30pm.
