SWABI: A woman and her newborn died in the district headquarters hospital, Swabi, allegedly due to negligence of the staff.

Ashraf Ali, a brother of the deceased woman, refused to take the body away, alleging the entire staff of the gynaecology ward was responsible for the deaths.

The wife of Ibrahim Khan of Dagai village was brought to the DHQ hospital early in the morning and was admitted to the gynae ward.

Ali alleged they were kept in the dark about expiry of the baby and her mother, insisting that his sister gave birth to a baby but soon she also expired due to negligence of the staff.

Ali said during the delivery process only one drip was used. “The doctors and other staff are responsible for the death of her sister and her newborn baby,” he said.

Medical superintendent Mohammad Shafiq said the death was caused due to excessive bleeding from the patient.

An FIR has been registered in the city police station, and the woman’s body sent for postmortem.
